Plot
It is about Amano Yukiteru (Yuki) who spends most of his times writing things he sees in his cellphone diary, he has no friends whatsoever and ended up having two imaginary friends that is the God of Time and Space; Deus Ex Machina and Deus' servant; Murmur (Muru Muru).
One day, Deus gives Yuki a diary while mentioning some things about a game. Strangely, on the next day, Yuki's new diary already has entries for the next 90 days---entries about the future that come unnervingly true.
Yuki's just happy to have the "key of life" and he becomes unbeatable---or at least, that is what he thinks. Yet that doesn't last so long, he then learns that there are more people that holds the "future diary" like him, after Gasai Yuno; the pretty, genius, the school idol... that turns out to be Yuki's stalker, tells him about that when a serial killer (Takao Hiyama) which appears to be a diary holder, chases him.
With Yuno's diary and her genius mind, Yuki's able to avoid the "DEAD END" flag that symbolizes "death", and the serial killer's dead instead.
After that, Deus finally gives explaination about the "game" he's talking about, which turns out to be a survival game to determine the next God of Time and Space; or should I say, to replace Deus.
How the game works is just simple; the players must kill each other until there's only one player left; which will become the next God of Time and Space, if the future diary breaks; so does the diary holder's future, which means death / DEAD END.
And if there's no winner of the game, it will mean apocalypse.

There's a total of 12 players in the game, each with different diary functions.
[1st] [Amano Yukiteru] [Voice : Misuzu Togashi]
Yuki's diary is a "Random Diary" that records all things around him.
More Info : He is named after Jupiter, the Roman God of sky, weather, and lightning.
Loves dart game.
[2nd] [Gasai Yuno] [Voice : Tomosa Murata]
Yuno's diary is a "Yukiteru Diary" that records all things about Yukki every 10 minutes.
More Info : Yuno, as said before, is the pretty, genius, and the school idol that is actually Yukki's stalker, and turns out to be a yandere (cute on the outside, sadistic on the inside).
She'll do
anything to protect Yukki, and she'll kill anyone who tries to steal Yukki away from her.
She is named after Juno, the Roman Goddess.
[3rd] [Hiyama Takao] [Voice : Jin Domon]
Takao's diary is a "Murder Diary" that gives details on his next victims and how he'll kill them.
More Info : He's actually Yukki's teacher (Left picture) that is secretly a serial killer (Above picture).
Named after the Roman God, Vulcan.
[4th] [Kurusu Keigo] [Voice : Masahiko Tanaka]
Keigo's diary is a "Police Investigation Diary", which gives him details of crimes that will happen within the next 90 days, but it cannot predict the future of an investigation done by someone other than himself.
More Info : A police captain who was chosen for the Diary Game to balance out the other Diary users who were much worse. He has no interest whatsoever in being God, but he then decides to win the game and become God to save his dying son.
Named after the Roman God, Mercury.
[5th] [Houjou Reisuke] [Voice : Asami Sanada]
Reisuke's diary is a "Hyper Vision Diary", a coloring book that gives a small summary of the activities that he will perform for the day. However, his diary only shows three entries for the day during the morning, noon, and night.
More Info : A four year old boy that looks innocent and harmless, he is very intelligent for his age and has a very diabolical mind.
Named after the Roman Goddess, Ceres.
[6th] [Kasugano Tsubaki] [Voice : Eri Sendai]
Tsubaki's diary is a scroll called the "Clairvoyance Diary" which allows her to read what her followers see. However, Tsubaki does not trust what her diary tells her because what her followers see may not be accurate and her fear of traitors from within.
More Info : A frail girl with bad eye-sight, she is the leader of the Omekata cult where she's serves as the group priestess. The reason she hates the world was after her parents' death, killed in a car crash and she was made the priestess. However, the cult's second-in-command took over the cult, and he had Tsubaki trapped in a cage, making her "priestess" and allowing the male members of the cult to rape her. The rapes traumatized Tsubaki with the only thing keeping her sane was a ball given to her by her mother but when she loses it, Tsubaki finally had enough and wanted the world to end for making her suffer.
Named after Proserpina, the Roman Goddes of Spring.
[7th] [Ikusaba Marco and Mikami Ai] [Voice : Tomokazu Seki -Marco, Natsuko Kuwatani-Ai]
Marco's diary is "The Unbeatable Brawler Diary" which predicts attacks before they happened and Ai's diary is the "Flirting Diary" which locates any man she wants to flirt in the future.
Their real diaries are Exchange Diaries which report each other's immediate future. The couple displays excellent teamwork as they use their diaries to cover each other's weaknesses.
More Info : Marco and Ai are orphans who fell in love with each other after Ai was adopted by Kamado Ueshita, Marco's guardian. Their devotion is so strong that they want to win the game so they can become God and live for eternity together.
Marco and Ai are named after the Roman gods Mars and Venus, respectively.
[8th] [Ueshita Kamado] [Voice : Hiromi Konno]
Kamado's diary is the "Blog Diary" that is actually a server that can be accessed by the people she allows in, giving each person their own "Apprentice Diary" that can predict the future in their own various ways.
More Info : Kamado has no interest in the Diary Game as the only thing she cares about looking after her orphans. Ironically, it is her orphans who want her to win as they love Kamado and will kill anyone who harms her.
Kamado is the only diary owner who has no interest in becoming God, and is a pacifist.
Named after the Roman Goddess, Vesta.
[9th] [Uryuu Minene] [Voice : Mai Aizawa]
Minene's diary is an "Escape Diary" which will chart out the best course of actions for her to escape whenever she finds herself in a dangerous situation. While it means she can escape anything, it is not perfect as the diary can only tell her how to escape if there are favorably conditions that allow her any chance to escape.
More Info : An infamous atheist terrorist, Minene is a young woman who has hatred against organized religion particular God. Her hatred of religion stems from her past when she and parents were traveling in a city in the Middle East but got caught in a battle, which is hinted between Israelis and Palestinians, where her parents were killed in the crossfire. Blaming God for her parents death, she leads a crusade of destruction against those associated with God. Minene got involved in the Diary game when after a failed assassination to kill a Catholic Cardinal, she tried to escape but almost fell to her death but was saved by Deus who gave her an offer to save her if she join his game. Originally, she wants to win the game to destroy religion worldwide but later change her mind after befriending Yuki and his friends.
Named after the Roman Goddess, Minerva.
[10th] [Tsukishima Karyuudo] [Voice : Hirokazu Hiramatsu]
Karyuudo's diary is the "Breeder's Diary" which allows him to control his dogs to attack his enemies using his cell phone by voice command. However, it's the disadvantage is that the more dogs that user control, the greater concentration needed to command all of them which leaves the user vulnerable.
More Info : Karyuudo is a dog breeder who loves and cares about his dogs so much that he neglects his family.
Named after the Roman Goddess, Diana.
[11th] [John Balks] [Voice : Takaya Hashi]
Balks' diary is the "Watcher Diary" / "The Watcher" which enables him to read the other diary users entries including the Apprentice Diary users.
More Info : A believer in Nazi ideology, Balks' main goal is to create a race of superior beings with him as their leader. Despite his ideology, he is a gentleman, befriending Kamado and inviting her to help him in his place to give everyone in Sakurami City the power of the Future Diaries.
Named after the Roman God, Bacchus.
[12th] [Hirasaka Yomotsu] [Voice : Yoshihisa Kawahara]
Hirasaka's diary is a tape recorder called the "Justice Diary", it has the ability to tell him what evil deeds that will happen in the future which range from normally criminal like plotting murder to the nonsensical like littering. Furthermore, his diary can hypnotize people by giving them illusions.
More Info : Blind and insane, he is a vigilante who acts like a super sentai hero including wearing spandex and a large, round one eye mask. While claiming to be fighting for "Justice", his view of justice is very different as to him, justice is the one who wins.
Named after the Roman God, Pluto.

His true face is revealed at the last episode when he's visiting Third, which he captured.

My review
The manga and the anime are both so cool~ I think Mirai Nikki is a very great animanga. After first reading the manga, I became a fan of Mirai Nikki and Gasai Yuno... and somehow I also became a yandere... Well, not a full-yandere, though.
Mirai Nikki is really a sad story, it may bring you to your tears.
It's not all about insanity, but it's also about love, tragedies that ruin hopes and dreams, breakdowns, betrayals and more.
There may be some people who hate Mirai Nikki, but there are too who love it.
Mirai Nikki is suitable for both girls and boys but not pretty suitable for kids below the age of 13, since there are tragic scenes.
The graphics are better in the anime, to be honest.
